Good afternoon all
Riding an e-scooter on public roads, pavements, or cycle lanes without the correct licence and insurance is against the law. Many people are unaware that privately owned e-scooters cannot be used on public land, and doing so puts both the rider and others at risk.
Police have the power to take action against anyone using an e-scooter illegally. If you are stopped and cannot provide the required licence and insurance, your e-scooter can be seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
To ride legally, e-scooters must be part of an approved rental scheme, be insured, and be used in accordance with UK law. Failure to comply may result in fines, penalty points on your licence, and possible prosecution.
Stay safe, stay legal, and avoid having your e-scooter seized.
